The contest began in 1965, after the devastating tsunami and resulting damage in 1964. It has grown in popularity and attendance since.

The Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival has been a tradition on the North Coast of Oregon for over forty years. The festival embodies the rich cultural heritage that was transplanted to the Astoria, Oregon region by emmigrating Scandinavians. During this year’s festival, experience a dozen Scandinavian musical, dance, and theater groups plus Harald Haugaard and Helene Blum from Denmark. Browse Scandinavian imports & handcrafts. Taste traditional Scandinavian foods and hand-crafted beers.
All events except for the parade take place at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds, three miles east of Astoria.

Trash Bash!

Ahhh, Oregon. Land of clean air, plentiful trees, sparkling water, and recycling. It’s almost a religion here.
The event of the year is the 13th annual Trash Bash held by CART’M, the local recycling center. May 20th, 5-9pm
Highlights include a Trash Art Show, live music,’ Trashion’ Show, raffle, food and dancing.
